In this unit, students will learn how plants are able to photosynthesize to make food for themselves. Students will be required to learn the factors that affect photosynthesis and use one of the factors to investigate the effect of it on plants ability to photosynthesize. Students will then use their knowledge to design a lab report on the effect of sunlight/water/temperature/carbon dioxide on the rate of photosynthesis. The metabolic pathways of photosynthesis and respiration will also be taught and students will be able to see the effect of temperature on the rate photosynthesis and respiration since enzymes play a big role in these 2 processes.

Essential idea

Metabolic reactions are regulated in response to the cell's needs.

  1. Metabolism
  2. Cell respiration
